The Antidote To Sweatpants [And Where to Buy]

October 21, 2020

Let’s get one thing straight, I am not anti-sweatpants.

With iterations in more elevated fabrics like cashmere, they are one of those pivotal items that are becoming a mainstay in our wardrobes. My clients love them and I’m perfectly happy to lounge around in these, these and these.

FUN FACT: The French do it again! Did you know that sweatpants or joggers were designed by Emile Camuset, who founded infamous sportswear label Le Coq Sportif? BUT…

I am a firm believer in the ritual of dressing for work, even when at home, and the effect it has on our mental state. The official term for this is Enclothed Cognition.

A study done in 2012 revealed that what you wear can indeed influence how you act, by the fact people will embody certain traits and actions that they associate with certain clothing.

Now before you start to argue that your sweatpants will therefore make you more Français, let’s consider a more à la mode alternative and one of the biggest trends to emerge in recent months.

The knitted dress.

Just as comfortable as sweatpants but more elevated and chic.

Here are my favourites…

High Street: Try H&M Premium Quality and & Other Stories

Mid Range: Try Nanushka [in my wardrobe] and Toteme

High End: Try Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney

P.S. Knitted separates are equally acceptable.

P.P.S If you want more items if your wardrobe like this, that make you feel pulled together and work appropriate but are also high on the comfort factor then book a discovery call today.

Speaking of French, my brilliant Senior Stylist, Sophia would love to help you build a comfortable and effortless wardrobe. (Sweatpants not included).
