Bored Of Your Denim Jacket? Here Are My 5 Favourite Alternatives.

September 22, 2020

This week’s blog is inspired by the gorgeous Ann, who sent me this email…

“I’ve been working from home for months now, mostly okay with casual wear but my dilemma is – I love wearing dresses but when it gets cool, what to put over my shoulders??”

I woke at 7.00am and it was 11 degrees but by 3pm today it will be 19 degrees.

The changeable British weather requires a selection of workable jacket or cover up options that can be thrown over your dresses and that add to the overall look.

You want your layers to compliment and elevate your outfit not look like an after thought.

Here are 5 of my favourites…

1. Shacket – The shirt jacket hybrid that is perfect on its own or layered.

TOP TIP – If you want to try a new style but are not sure how often you will wear it, invest in a high street versions to test wearability and how useful it is.

2. Cardigan – choose a style to match the neckline off your dress. Does a v neck or crew neck work better?

3. Sweat Shirt – I love over-sized styles

4. Blazer – choose you favourite, black, checked, single or double breasted.

5. Trench – A structured or fluid trench works well.

What about rethinking the denim jacket? Can it be layered under a military or utility jacket or under a trench coat? Can you belt it or wear it as a shirt buttoned all the way? Have a play and reinvent the much-loved jacket to add interest to your style.
