A Formula For How Much To Spend On Your Handbag

November 15, 2024

“How much should I spend on my handbag?!”

I get asked this question ALOT.

And I understand why. Bags are a necessary investment to carry your stuff.

When a client needs a new handbag these are 6 questions I ask:

1. Size: does it fit your essentials? (check the size of your laptop)

  1.

2. Colour: will the colour work with your outfits?

3. Handles: how do you like to carry your bag, do you want the option of a longer strap? (thicker straps are more comfortable if the bag is heavy)

4. Details: is the hardware heavy?

5. Longevity: A bag without logos and statement hardware will date less quickly

6. CPW: does it fit with your lifestyle?

But bags are not just a portable canvas…

They are also a form of self expression; i.e. we need to bring style into it

So how much you should spend on a handbag boils down to this calculation

Wear + Style = £

How much you will wear it + how much joy you will get out of it stylistically = Price

So let me apply this to my own bags…

The bag I use everyday (and have done for almost 2 years) is the Loewe Puzzle so

Wear high + Style high = Price High

My evening bag is a metallic silver from Dries Van Noten

Wear low + Style high = Price Medium

The amount you spend is always relative to what you would consider ‘high’/expensive.

But great bags don’t have to cost the earth.

All under £900
