Denim Refresh {The Trends Done Your Way}
Denim Refresh. Let’s get one thing straight: the best denim for you is the denim you actually like.
Wide, distressed, tailored, light wash, straight, barrel, skinny—whatever you gravitate toward is the right answer.
Yes, skinnies are making their rounds on TikTok again with Insta filling up with new ways to wear the noughties favourite, but remember, what matters is figuring out what’s missing from your own denim lineup and what will make your wardrobe feel fresh.
Denim Refresh
👖Start in your own wardrobe.
Think about how you dress most days.
-
If you live in button-downs, try something a little unrefined or vintage to balance the polish.
-
Big on sweatshirts? Go for denim with interesting details or structure so you don’t feel sloppy.
-
Want to sharpen your look? Match your jeans to your top—tonal dressing always feels intentional.
👖Make a plan.
Before you shop, check what you already own. Make a list with these in mind:
-
Colour – and if it’s blue, which blue?
-
Shape – straight, wide, tapered, curved?
-
Length – and importantly, what shoes you’ll wear them with.
- Rise – Do you like to tuck things in, do you like to wear tops with shorter lengths… then high waist will be your go to (rises are lowering again… just giving you the heads up)
👖Once you’ve done that, then it’s time to peek at what’s trending and see what feels fresh for you.
A few years ago, I bought a pair of dark, non-stretch Toteme jeans with a curved seam. At the time, I wanted denim that felt more elevated than casual, and they became my go-to.
Eventually, I put them aside… not because I didn’t love them, but because I craved something new. Now that dark washes are returning to the forefront, they’re back in rotation. They’re easy to pair, offer a clean aesthetic, and as an added bonus—require less treatment, making them better for the environment.
The other trend I’m seeing? Brown denim. It’s a natural extension of brown’s dominance in clothing lately. This one’s for people who already have their blue-denim basics covered and want something unexpected. Style it down with grey or push it further with red—it works both ways.
Denim is personal, practical, and cyclical. The trick is starting with your wardrobe and taste, then layering in the trends that make sense for you.
What my clients and I are shopping now…👖
