How To Choose The Right Trainers For Your Outfit

January 18, 2025

How To Choose The Right Trainers. Before we begin, we need to start at the beginning.

Meaning, the best way to work out what trainers to buy that will go with your outfits and enhance your style, is to know what your style is.

Is it directional? Feminine? Classic? Sporty? Casual? Think about it. What three words (we call them CORE style words in the Style Club) best describe your style?

Once you have those words in mind, we are ready.

Back to the Trainers

The trainer market in the UK alone is worth about USD 4 billion. And it’s not just the sports brands that are fighting for your attention—luxury brands are jumping in too. Many designers now use sneakers as a way to introduce younger generations to their brand, keeping things fresh and relevant.

Trainers are a wardrobe essential. So when you’re looking for a fresh pair, it’s not just about what’s trending (although if you’re curious, this year’s trends include slim-line styles, bright colors, white sneakers, and suede). It’s about your personal style and how you like to wear your clothes.

Choosing Trainers for Your Style

  • Directional: If you lean toward a more directional style, you probably like playing with contrast and irony. A simple, clean trainer could give your looks an edge.
  • Feminine: For a feminine vibe, go for something more refined, like Toteme or The Row. But if you’re into mixing things up, try pairing outfits with a sporty brand like Adidas.
  • Classic: If you’re a classic dresser and prefer colour in your accessories, a bright trainer like the Speedcat would fit perfectly into your wardrobe.

Let’s Figure It Out

Want a simple way to narrow it down? Try finishing this sentence:

“I want a trainer that feels… and… so I feel… and… not… in my… outfits.”

For example:

“I want a trainer that feels refined and clean-lined so I feel feminine and modern, not unintentional in my casual outfits.”

So I know I’m looking for something that isn’t too sporty, but white or neutral with a thin sole for that extra refinement.”

Your Turn!

Now it’s your turn! Try filling out the sentence and let me know how it goes.

Let me know what you come up with.
