Jacket Season (And It’s Not Just Trench Coats)
Jacket Season. And how amazing has the sunshine been this week?
I was revelling in it with a fellow mum at the school pick-up this week… she was wearing her scarf-detailed trench, and I was in my floor-length version.
We had a giggle about our coordinating school run looks, and she admitted to her addiction of buying a new trench every year (always opting for beige so as to keep her predilection camouflaged from her partner!).
I get it. The neutral colour, its woven fabric, and its structured (but not too) silhouette make it an easy companion for most outfits and allow for a throw-on-as-you’re-leaving-the-house approach.
This Season, start with the Jacket
But according to the powers that be in the fashion world, dressing for Spring ’25 starts with the jacket and ends with the outfit.
We choose the jacket we want to wear first and build the look around it—a jacket-first dressing approach.
And this makes sense. The jacket is an integral item that helps us transition when the mornings are freezing until the sun comes out. It also protects us when the wind picks up (and when the weather gives us an optimistic reading of 16°C but ‘feels like’ 10°C).
So when I have a client who says,
“I feel sloppy and want to look more pulled together,” I know that they’re missing the right jackets to finish off their outfits.
I’m always surprised that ‘jackets’ are a gap in so many clients’ wardrobes. Their wardrobe progresses from coats to… ahhh… a denim jacket.
But thankfully, we are not short on choice this season!
Finding the Perfect Jacket
Before you start adding to your cart, make sure to read last week’s newsletter, where I provide a 3-step approach to finding the right jacket for you.
Now, let’s move on to what style you want to buy into this season.
Here’s my runway-approved list:
- One of the biggest trends I’m seeing is the addition of utility and sporty styles in technical fabrics to feminine looks.
- Another notable style on the catwalks was the bomber jacket in refined fabrics like cotton drill, suede, and leather.
- Countryside versions are still dominating, with barn, field, and work styles.
- With the trench, only extremes will do… go short or go long.
- And the biggest detail-oriented trend is the high or funnel neck (as predicted in my previous newsletter).
You can see the standouts here.

P.S. I know layering requires thought and skill—of which my team and I have plenty. If coordinating outfits takes you too much time and energy, we’d love to help you dress to feel more ‘pulled together’ this spring. Book your complimentary call here.
