Not Another Sweatpants Winter

December 12, 2025

Not Another Sweatpants Winter. This is not the newsletter I thought I was going to write.

I love doing a yearly round-up of what I bought, what was great, and the mistakes I made… but that will have to wait until next week.

This week, my home has been overtaken by super-flu (I really hope you’re well and haven’t been subjected to it!). The slightly Covid-adjacent vibe wafting through the house has me craving more at-home clothes that aren’t just sweatpants.

I have nothing against this leisurewear staple – I love my Tibi Calder joggers. But since Instagram has turned jogging bottoms into the unofficial influencer uniform, they just don’t hit the same for me anymore.

Yes, I’ll happily throw them on after the gym or to dash down the road to post returns, but I’m longing for something I can wear at home that says “hotel” rather than “Hailey Bieber” (who I love, by the way).

Maybe…

  • it’s because I’m craving a holiday—the kind where a hotel hands you a thick plush bath robe and wheels in a room-service trolley.
  • i’ve watched Home Alone one too many times.
  • Or maybe.. it’s just the nostalgia of this time of year, remembering my mum and dad sitting in their robes while we ransacked our Santa sacks.

I’ve been to some fabulous Christmas celebrations and seen some truly great outfits (special shout-out to Sarah in her Norma Kamali bodysuit).

But all I want this Christmas is …

A really luxe bath robe. Something that bridges that space between waking up and getting dressed—still personal and luxurious, but appropriate enough that I can answer the door in it or host overnight guests at breakfast.

And apparently, I’m not the only one leaning into this daily ritual. Brixton-based sleepwear brand Desmond & Dempsey saw robe sales grow 47% this year. Dolce & Gabbana are even reviving their baroque patterned dressing gowns.

So, here it is: my list of robes.

I want long, enveloping, fluffy layers. I’m a sucker for a stripe, but honestly everything goes. D&D’s Renaissance Nude is also extremely tempting.

I hope this helps with Christmas shopping for that hard-to-please, “they already have everything” person.

Stay well!

Penny
