What my wardrobe would say if it could talk
Inspired by the brilliant children’s book, The Day The Crayons Quit, I sat and thought about what my wardrobe would say if it could talk…

Dear Penny,
Thank you for your dedication to us. The thought and intention you put into every purchase makes us all feel valued.
We like that you consider what new items to introduce, making sure the new items will get on with the regulars before finding a permanent space for them to hang.
We like that you schedule time in your busy week to check in on the more neglected items of your wardrobe, to see if you can introduce them to some of your more regularly worn items.
Thank you for always taking care of us avoiding dry cleaning wherever possible so we can have a long life. And there is nothing that makes a feel more special than when you photograph us together.
BUT we are not happy with your reliance on black shoes. It is limiting the amount of wear you can get out of all of us and no offence to all the black shoes, but the black shoes make us look boring.
You need to introduce some more variety of colour into your flat shoes selection and we would love to see some red which will go well with the navy, pinks, sea-greens and denims.
But congratulations on the new trainer additions which are not only practical but makes us look chilled and pulled together.
Can we also talk about your addiction to buying high-summer dresses!
Look here, we know you love a dress but summery, strappy styles that only get worn a few weeks a year and spend the rest of the time gathering dust in a draw is not a good use of your resources! You know better than that!
We don’t like that you spend so much money on them when you could spend more money on more versatile pieces like blazers and light weight knitwear. These sections of your wardrobe are feeling a bit empty and neglected. Sort it out!
We like that you like to wear knitwear and that you wear them all year round but they are feeling over-worked! Why not give your tops and blazers so more attention? The layering will keep you warm and the tailoring will elevate your look when you are wearing jeans.
And let’s be honest when is the last time you bought a top that WASN’T white! Try some other colours you love because this will help you get dressed for all the zoom meetings with more ease.
But overall we think you are doing a good job. Keep buying things that are modern, romantic and classic so you always feel your most interesting, creative and inspired self.
Keep investing in quality items that last but just remember your lifestyle and don’t get distracted by diaphanous beach dresses!
It has been great spending time with you. We think we have a strong relationship and enjoy supporting you so you feel your best.
Your friend,
Wardrobe.
